Badraldeen 'Bandar' Elwaseem, 12, of Buffalo, NY died at a local children's hospital Saturday night after he was shot with a stray bullet


Police and FBI agents in Buffalo, New York are on the hunt for the person who tried to kill a 22-year-old man, but ended up accidentally shooting a young boy in the head.

Authorities say Badraldeen 'Bandar' Elwaseem, 12, was standing in the kitchen of his family's upstairs apartment in the 400 block of Williams St. in Buffalo around 8:30 p.m. on Saturday when he was hit by a stray bullet fired at someone else in a nearby parking lot.

The gunshot that killed him was one of several fired at a 22-year-old man in a car in the parking lot of Town Gardens Plaza's supermarket less than a mile away.

Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown said the bullet that killed Bandar traveled 'a considerable distance' before entering his home. 

Bandar's home is approximately one-tenth of a mile from Towne Gardens Plaza where the dispute occurred.

A total reward of $12,500 has been offered for information leading to an arrest














He said he and leaders from the city's police department have visited with Bandar's family and expressed their condolences, adding that the police 'will not rest' until the shooter is caught. 

'Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family,' Brown said. 'We will continue to look for the person or persons responsible for this crime.' 

Police and the FBI are offering a combined award total of $12,500 for information leading to an arrest in the shooting. 

WKBW reports Bandar was an Honor's student at International School 45 in Buffalo.

The city school district issued a statement Saturday, saying 'Too many of our precious children are either injured or gone too soon due to gun violence.'
