Eager customers queued outside beauty salons, nail bars and tattoo shops in England as they opened for the first time in four months today as part of the latest relaxation of lockdown restrictions.
Excited clients looking forward to a pamper and preening session treated themselves to manicures, tans and tattoos after 112 long days in lockdown.
But while spas, massage studios and physical therapy firms can also now welcome customers again, treatments involving work directly in front of the face are banned - leading to an outcry among frustrated customers.
It means face waxing, eyelash treatments, make-up application and facial treatments should not be provided due to the much greater risk of transmission.
This has led to accusations of 'sexist' rules because beard trimming is allowed, with the ban on other treatments making it financially unviable for some salons to reopen.
Women are now threatening to throw caution to the wind and go to barbers to get their eyebrows and facial hair trimmed.
Salon owners have also hit out at larger businesses for refusing to send workers back to the office, claiming working from home is hammering their takings.
The drive to bring British workers back to the office from coronavirus lockdown hit a roadblock today after some of country's biggest firms said only 40 per cent will return from home.
This could spell disaster for salon owners, many of whom - particularly in city centres and in London - rely on footfall from office workers having treatments at lunch or after work.

At Nails UK in Blackfen, south east London, customers are required to wear face coverings and wash their hands upon entry.
Clients then undergo procedures from behind a perspex screen with staff wearing surgical face masks.
But only a select few options are available due to government guidelines with waxing strictly off the menu.
